Young Jains of
America (YJA) is excited to see that you have an interest in joining the
organization on an Executive level! The work is challenging,
but very exciting and rewarding.
Serving over 5000 members, YJA's mission is to be recognized nationally
and internationally as an umbrella youth organization for establishing
a network to share Jain heritage and religion.
Over the past year, YJA has organized several regional retreats, two national dinners, a Jain Essay Competition, Scholarship, and with the help of a convention committee, planned the best YJA convention yet, YJA Convention 2010: Inspire. Connect. Do the Jain Thing. The 2010-2011 Board will help with planning for an even broader array of events including youth programming for the 2011 JAINA Convention in Houston during July 4th weekend. Visit
YJA 2009-10 Board & Convention Committee &
YJA 2010 Convention to learn more!
With motivation and a strong work-ethic, a lot of great things are being
done. The Executive Board provides a forum
to make wonderful friendships and build networking opportunities. The
experience of serving on the YJA board will help you in whatever career
you pursue. You will learn to work within short deadlines, communicate
with others, develop projects with limited resources, and much more. But,
the most important thing is that YJA is a great way to give back to our
community that has given us so much!
The YJA board is comprised of sixteen individuals:
two co-chairs, eight director positions, and six regional coordinators.
Application Deadline for the YJA Co-Chair position is July 27th at 11:59 PM PST & Application Deadline for all other positions is August 2nd at 11:59 PM PST.
The board meets twice a year (in August and January). This year's August meeting will be held prospectively August 28th weekend location TBA. It is imperative for the prospective board member to
attend both meetings.
In addition, we are looking for local representatives (LRs) to assist regional coordinators (RCs) with activities in their local temples. An LR is not an Executive Board position but serves as a great way to stay involved with YJA and as a stepping stone toward a future Executive Board position.
YJA hopes you will join us in these exciting times and opportunities to
spread and promote Jainism through youth.
