South Regional News

Habitat for Humanity

Recently, the students at UT Austin participated in a Habitat for Humanity Project. All participants met many new people and seemed to enjoy the project. Half of the group worked on the framing of the roof while the others worked on siding for the house. The sponsors were nice enough to provide lunch for all attendees and also catered to our strict vegetarian diet. The University Jain Students plan to schedule at least one major volunteer event every semester and hope that each will be just as fun and successful.

With the help of fundraisers, the Fellowship members presented the children with special gift wrapped chocolate, along with other such candy. In March, the Jain Society of Houston held their annual picnic at George Bush Park. The Houston Jain Samaj is fortunate to have two Samanjis, who give lectures regularly at the temple twice every month. The Jain Center is currently busy with many projects. One of these will include representing ‘Jainism’ at the Houston International Festival this upcoming year, under the country theme of “India”. The Jain Center is also preparing for Mahavir Jayanti Celebrations. Pathshala students will be performing in skits as well as dances.
